Parasites are organisms that derive nourishment and protection from other living organisms known as hosts. When found in food, they can cause diseases in humans.
Parasitic infection is most likely to be caused by raw leafy vegetables, over ripened seed fruits, raw meats, pork , shell fish, unclean water, outside foods , tinned or canned juices nearing expiry date, fermented foods like yeast rich breads and also certain unclean root vegetables such as beet, potato, yam, sweet potato & wild mushrooms. In fact, most of the times one may not even realize & blame the stomach ache & bloating on acidity or food intolerance whereas the truth is the cases of parasitic infection have increased tremendously and are going undiagnosed.
WAYS TO COOK & CLEAN THESE PARASITE-CAUSING FOODS.
Salt & vinegar are the best natural disinfectants. Soak your foods in a bowl full of salt & vinegar for alteast 1 hr and then rinse with drinking water, Foods that can be heated like mushroom, meats etc can be boiled in hot water with salt. Further one can add a few drops of cold pressed coconut oil & dry spices such as black pepper & cloves to kill any form of parasite which may be alive in the food.
FEW SYMPTOMS OF HAVING A PARASITE.
Dysentery, vomiting, giddiness, stomach ache, loss of energy, headache, poky & foul smelling stools, unstable appetite i.e in some cased very hungry while in some not hungry at all. These are the most common symptoms of a parasitic infection,
METHODS TO UNDERGO A DETOX TO GET RID OF THESE PARASITES.
A detox diet to flush out any infections would actually comprise of antiseptic foods rather than the regular raw diets one would take to lose weight. Pungent foods combined with herbs & spices work very well. In such cases, we administer cooked stew made of celery, stewed papaya with cayenne pepper, steamed pineapple with black pepper, fresh curds with turmeric, flax-seed oil/ ghee & powdered basil leaves, fennel seed & cinnamon teas. “I never recommend raw foods & natural sugars for a worm detox” says Tripti Gupta.
FOODS TO AVOID.
Bacteria & parasites thrive on sugar, hence avoid all forms of sugars, fruits such as berries, grapes, melons. Of course all outside foods, uncooked foods, raw meats, fish & eggs. Occasional indulgence works but frequent eating can cause worms we may not be aware of. For frequent eaters it’s a good idea to combine a strong shot of lime juice with cayenne pepper & pink salt post their indulgence followed by an oil infused tea. For eg. Lemon grass infused green tea with a drop of extra virgin coconut oil & cloves etc.
